This young group, made up of four women and one man, perform six differently themed dance routines using a variety of styles and techniques. Opening with a piece titled 'Ideals', the five dancers all begin on the ground before bursting into a high energy close contact dance that has the feel of a tightly choreographed martial arts film. The second dance, 'Interface', is slower and more classical, which allows you to appreciate the subtle movements, though doesn't maintain the energy generated from the opening work. Following on was perhaps the weakest area, an improvised piece based on the board game Articulate. There's something very strange about asking for the audience to participate at a dance show, but we were encouraged to shout out the answers to a real live game. While this is played out, a solitary dancer gesticulates the words in an improvised routine. This section would perhaps be better served if there was a little pre-planting of good words to dance to, though perhaps that defeats the purpose. The remaining sections vary from a slow haunting routine, a fast paced energetic dance that uses every bit of space available, and an artistically inventive piece of abstract physical theatre performed over an audio commentary. There's no doubting the excellent talent on display here. The five dancers maintain great concentration on all the group routines, while allowing some individuality to come across when the opportunity arises. It's a joy being so close to feel the impact of the dance moves and hear every breath. It's unfortunate that the costume changes between each segment take a bit of time as the audience are left in silence, looking at an empty stage with nothing more to do that twiddle their thumbs. Perhaps some thought into covering these gaps with music would help maintain the mood set by each dance.Nevertheless, that's a tiny quibble in an otherwise entertaining and inspiring hour.
