A collection of four short plays looking at different elements of life and love, each presents its own element of the comic brought about from the tragic and vice versa. They convincingly depict how people can be and indeed are changed by the actions of others.

Being Dumped deals with the reactions and tribulations of the end of a relationship from both perspectives. Being Saved looks at life on the brink as a man attempts to commit suicide but is distracted by a man looking for his dog. Being Alive encounters artificial intelligence while Being Dead follows a recent corpse in limbo.

The three actors performed the differing characters in the four pieces well, making some interesting choices to bring out a range of personalities and emotions. All three showed good energy but at times they were a little on the softly spoken side.

The four shorts are very well written and they follow a natural progression from one to the next. Witty and well observed, they also provide pause for thought. It is a shame that the pieces are not longer, since what little we see is entertaining and a novel look at life. There is just enough time to settle into each piece before it comes to a satisfactory but all too brief end.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Blurb

Break ups, Undertaker, Robot, Suicide and a cup of Tea; an action packed hour of 4 short comedy plays with 4 bubbles being burst. Each play has it's own unique quality of taking life's darkest moments and turning them into hilarious situations.

Bringing you these brilliant and original plays, by award winning playwright Paul Ekert, are 3 professional actors, Liz Mente Bishop, George Lamptey and Warren Brooking, who, after training together in both London and LA have gone on to create a sparkling on stage chemistry with classic comic timing.

Part of a week-long festival of theatre, music, comedy, family events and more at venues throughout Henley-on-Thames.
