A 1950s forerunner to illusionist companies like Pilobolus and MOMIX, Alwin Nikolais made technological strides in modern dance, using video, light and electronic music in startling new ways. His work lives on primarily through Salt Lake City's Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, which returns to the Joyce Theater with four Nikolais classics: "Tensile Involvement," "Gallery," "Mechanical Organ III" and "Crucible."
