Broadway Baby talks to Tension Square.
We are exploring a subject that is rarely touched, or in fact known about. It’s very rare to hear a story with the female as the abuser.
Tell us about your show
Tension Square explores the theme of domestic violence in young adult relationships with the female as the abuser. Discovering the story through hospital patient Marigold.
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
A fantastic venue for new companies and new writing.
What makes your show unique amongst the thousands of others at the festival?
We are exploring a subject that is rarely touched, or in fact known about. It’s very rare to hear a story with the female as the abuser. But we’re not doing it your normal way, through comedy and another character the story and situation unfolds.
How did you create your show?
We were lucky enough to have a writer offer to adapt a screenplay, and from that, with a little input from the actors, a play was developed. And as a matter of fact, we asked the writer to be involved in the play and so she will also be starring in it.
Can you tell us a bit about your company’s background?
Chameleon Productions is a brand-new theatre company, created to produce and perform new writing that explores untold areas, with the aim to raise awareness and open discussion for the subject. We are so pleased to be debuting are first ever play at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, with the hope to return for many years to come.
If your show does well in Edinburgh, what do you want to do with it next?
Our dream is to tour. We feel the story of our characters is one that needs to be told, and a subject that more people need to be aware of. But we defiantly plan on taking it across the country at some point, to reach as many people with our message as possible.
