Family-friendly Story Pocket Theatre is a new company bringing Arabian Nights to the Edinburgh Fringe. Pete Shaw grabbed a moment of their rehearsal period to ask some questions.

We have very particular aims - to produce exciting, engaging and innovative theatre with storytelling at the heart of each show and to entertain the whole family from grandparents to grandchildren.

Tell us about the Edinburgh show

"Arabian Nights is an hour full of fun. We have chosen four stories from the 1001 on offer, filled them with comedy, songs and beautiful storytelling, combined it with a stunning set that lights up and becomes many different places throughout the show together with 54 plus characters which the three extremely talented actors portray and there you have our show."

Story Pocket Theatre is a pretty new company. What are your aims as
a company?

"Yes we are new - we set up last year. We have very particular aims - to produce exciting, engaging and innovative theatre with storytelling at the heart of each show and to entertain the whole family from grandparents to grandchildren.
"

How did you get involved with Michael Morpurgo?

"Adam Forde (one of our directors and writer) had adapted one of his books for stage so when we approached him to be Patron to our new company he was already familiar with Adam's work and was impressed by the ethos of the company both to entertain with magical storytelling and also to support up and coming actors, designers and other professionals with proper and fair contracts."

Are you planning to work with the Yvonne Arnaud again in the future?

"We are all closely connected with the Yvonne Arnaud and they are associating themselves with all our productions."

Finally - children's party. Clowns or magician? What's your tip?

"Neither - just enjoy the wonderful, traditional party games and make up a treasure hunt around the garden or house."
