The Statement of Randolph Carter promises to whisk you away for an hour. Broadway Baby finds out more.

Although the fringe is a great place to be, we aim to take our audience away for an hour. We want our experience to be completely immersive with a unique atmosphere.

Tell us about your show

The Statement of Randolph Carter is a reimagined version of a classic set of gothic horror stories written by H.P Lovecraft, combining storytelling, hand crafted lighting and live on hand foley sound effects, we attempt to create a totally immersive experience and aim to plunge our audience into these richly detailed world.

Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?

The venue looks perfect for the intimate atmosphere we are after, and the location is one of the best in the Fringe, not to mention the bar and cafe on site at surgeons hall.

Have you brought a show to the festival before?

No, but I did play a giant chicken in George's Marvelous medicine in 2012...

What makes your show unique amongst the thousands of others at thefestival?

Although the fringe is a great place to be, we aim to take our audience away for an hour. We want our experience to be completely immersive with a unique atmosphere. With any H.P Lovecraft story you are given such a rich and detailed worlds, the text is so descriptive, it plays wonderfully on the imagination. We wanted to take this further, really play on the sights and sounds and make it more than just a story.

How did you create your show?

The first stage is to go through the text with a fine toothcomb, cutting, editing and picking out the perfect points for sound effects. Next comes a huge amount of research and experimentation trying to find the right sounds from the right objects. Then we get the actors in and start running drafts with the sound effects, this is a perfect way to see what works and what doesn’t and what may be missing. Then after that its weeks and weeks of relentless rehearsals so get every detail just right. Right at the end we need to find a way for it all to fit together and work out the logistics and technical requirements and then finally ready for the stage.

Can you tell us a bit about your company’s background?

We haven't been around long! We will be one year's old in June (and from that we've put on two sell out shows!) funnily enough it all started in the pub, we had met up after university, had a few drinks, got chatting and before we knew it our first show was well on its way. After two sell out shows in Cambridge we then decided to branch out a bit further. With Norwich and Edinburgh coming up and hopefully much more.
