Secret agents, spies, world domination, illegal aliens, real ones - what could be better? Broadway Baby talks to Split Trunk Productions about Cross Wire, coming to Fringe '15.
Cross Wire has been such a great experience and we would love to tour the show after the Fringe. Who doesn’t want to see comedy aliens threatening to take over the world?
Tell us about your show
Aliens have landed in Edinburgh! Cross Wire is a brand new comedy theatre show for the Edinburgh Fringe festival 2015. A failed interrogation has comical consequences when a secret agent is looking for illegal aliens and uncovers a real alien.
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
For us it’s all about personality and whether it’s a good fit for our show. We talked to Charles Pamment the Creative Director at theSpaceUK during a fringe roadshow and straight away he understood what we wanted to do and it just felt like a great fit. It also helps that theSpaceUK has such a great reputation for new writing and a lot of fringe experience behind them.
Why Edinburgh? What’s the attraction?
Why Edinburgh? After visiting the fringe for a number of years, the question is more ‘why not’! It’s such an amazing place to showcase work, make new connections and see a staggering amount of amazing work in a relatively small space of time. Add into that the beautiful old city and intriguing mix of visitors and you begin to realise this is the place to be for August.
How did you create your show?
Each show is created slightly differently depending on who is working on it and why. For Cross Wire it was very character led. We discussed what we wanted from the characters and key points in the story then both went away and wrote sections of the script. This was then improvised around in rehearsals.
Can you tell us a bit about your company’s background?
Split Trunk Productions was started to give performers a way to create new work and take more control of their careers. Run by performers, we have produced short films, a web series and now our first theatre show with Cross Wire at the Edinburgh Fringe. We work in collaboration with professionals in all creative industries.
If your show does well in Edinburgh, what do you want to do with it next?
We always have an eye on the next piece of work we are doing. That said, Cross Wire has been such a great experience and we would love to tour the show after the Fringe. Who doesn’t want to see comedy aliens threatening to take over the world?
