Tell us about your show
The Final Act is a new comedy musical telling the story of a struggling theatre society given one last chance to stage a sell-out show. There’s only one problem: it must be a musical! Unbeknown to the rest of the society, the President ignores their inherent distaste for musicals, and sets about recruiting an eccentric creative team and cast to put on the show. Inevitably however, the truth will out!
This timely story of a theatrical battle for survival will strike a chord with many a participant at the Fringe. The music is catchy and upbeat, featuring a cast of six complete with band.
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
theSpace @ Niddry St. (Upper) is the perfect new venue for our brand new comedy musical! Although our venue may be new, the Space UK are well known for high quality small scale musicals, and we feel The Final Act is well suited to its programme.
What are you most looking forward to at this year’s festival?
The Final Act is a feel-good, hilarious take on a company’s struggle to put on and devise a new musical, something which we are sure a large number of our audience will recognise! We’re therefore really looking forward to hearing other companies’ views on the show, and going along to see their musicals too!
Have you brought a show to the festival before?
Our Producer, Director and Musical Director were on the creative team for Wild West End, a musical parody brought to the Fringe in 2012 by Paulden Hall Productions. The show was a huge success, running for three weeks at Pleasance Queen Dome. We hope to replicate this success with our new hilarious comedy musical.
How did you create your show?
The Final Act was written by Katherine Tye and Tom Hicks, both graduates of The University of Nottingham. Between them, they had worked on countless shows both at University and other local theatres. The show is a hilarious take on the experiences they had working on amateur shows over the years, which will resonate with the companies watching at the Fringe!
Can you tell us a bit about your company’s background?
RopeWalk Productions is a new company based in Nottingham which aims to produce exciting new musicals.
