Re:member, a show that questions memory through form, structure and movement. Broadway Baby wants to know more.
The central aspect of our show points it apart from others, a collection of memories, of stories, of people focused around a single event.
Tell us about your show
Our first show as a company examines the topic of memory, how we perceive events and the sense of a collective experience. Through a unique use of form, structure and physical movement, the show takes an innovative look at how we recall. In an age where aspects of the mind have been covered by the news heavily, this is a hugely relevant piece.
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
We wanted to continue the fantastic partnership theSpace has had with Royal Holloway alumni Theatre Companies. Their reputation as a venues company in Edinburgh attracted us, along with the genuine interest and enthusiasm of all the staff we have spoken to. They have been nothing but supportive with all aspects in the development of this show.
Why Edinburgh? What’s the attraction?
Edinburgh has a uniqueness in its sheer balls-out randomness and collection of artists. From the pub basements to the large auditoriums, it is one of the few times a place can accommodate for everyone. As soon as you step foot in the mile, the buzz comes, the sense of practitioners and companies coming together for a drink, a good laugh and some fantastic shows along the way.
What makes your show unique amongst the thousands of others at the festival?
The central aspect of our show points it apart from others, a collection of memories, of stories, of people focused around a single event. We are tremendously proud of the actors we have worked with, who have pushed themselves every session to get the show to the place it is now; fluid, dynamic, constantly shifting. A show that dabbles with expectations and looks to put the human mind right at the forefront.
What has been the biggest challenge in getting your show ready for Edinburgh?
It’s a well-known cliché but the money side of things always comes into it. From pub quizzes to variety nights to selling small bags of sweets to hassled University students, we have done it all in order to fund this show. We can only apologize to those who have watched us put ourselves out in the rain, sing to and cram into pubs in order to bother you from your daily life. We appreciate every last penny.
