Broadway Baby

Still in his early twenties, Ola writes for The Now Show, The News Quiz and Nathan Caton’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing. You may of seen him on MTV Base. He performs all over the UK and as far afield as the US and Dubai. Now he is at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

My performance is relaxed and understated but my written material is meticulous and layered. It’s a reflection of me, so the more you see, the more you’ll understand.

“My Edinburgh show is entitled The Comedian and His Future Wife. It’s about my desire to find a wife, and become one of the greatest comedians who ever lived. I explore themes such as my absentee father, diversity faux pas, being cheated on, female beauty, male fantasies and performing in America. It’s a journey from a point in my life when things weren’t so great to when they seem to be great but not all is, as it seems.”

Why did you choose to perform as part of Laughing Horse?

“I think free shows are the future of the Fringe and Laughing Horse seem to embody this with excellence.”

How do you describe your comedy to those that might not have seen you before?

“It’s complex at times and simple at others. The humour lies in subtlety and wit. My performance is relaxed and understated but my written material is meticulous and layered. It’s a reflection of me, so the more you see, the more you’ll understand.”

What advice would you give your seventeen year old self?

“Keep doing what you’re doing, your life will be awesome. Oh, but if you want to get a two-year headstart on your career, start writing material. You think you want to be an investment banker, but comedy? You’re going to love it.”

If you were curating a stand up show for television, who would be your guests?

“Dave Chappelle and Stewart Lee.”
