How To Win Against History has been awarded the prestigious Bobby Award, Broadway Baby’s sixth star awarded to the very cream of Fringe performances.

worth more than five stars

Broadway Baby Editor Henry St Leger invaded the stage after the performance today, 24th August, to surprise the unsuspecting cast with their Bobby Awards trophy.

The show tells the story of a nineteenth-century aristocrat, Henry Cyril Paget, who became notorious for squandering his family fortune on lavish theatrical productions starring himself - which nobody came to. When he died, bankrupt, his family burnt every record of his existence they could get their hands on. How to Win Against History imagines Paget given a chance to reconnect with the fans he never managed to make in real life through the most popular medium he can think of: the musical.

Starring Seiriol Davies, Matthew Blake, and Dylan Townley, How to Win Against History was written and composed by Seiriol Davies with director Alex Swift and musical director Dylan Townley. The set and costume designer is Verity Quinn, the lighting designer Dan Saggers, and the dramaturg Eve Leigh. The show is produced by Aine Flanagan.

The Bobby Awards are Broadway Baby’s way to recognise outstanding achievement above and beyond the stringent requirements of a five-star review. Reviewers are invited to nominate shows that they feel are worth more than five stars for the award, which is then juried by Broadway Baby’s senior editors. There are no fixed number of Bobby Awards available, but normally two or three are given out over the course of a year.

The judging panel were unanimous that How To Win Against History is one of the very best shows at the Fringe this year.

The Bobby trophies are modelled after the iconic statue of Greyfriars Bobby at the top of Candlemaker Row in Edinburgh.

How to Win Against History plays at Assembly’s The Box on George Square throughout August. Read our five-star review (and see the full listings information) at http://www.broadwaybaby.com/shows/how-to-win-against-history/714135
