Numerous award-winning companies will be joining us again at this year at Brighton Fringe in the ever astounding Dance and Physical Theatre category. Body politics and the political body will be presented with pure physical finesse emerging and international expertise that will scintillate audiences across the festival.
Their toe tapping will be sure to have your hands clapping, as their boundless talent and outstanding show, brought all the way over from Ireland, promises great things.
Blooming Surprise, The Warren: Theatre Box, 14-15 May 15:30
SáRas FeiJoÓ, professional clowner, performer extraordinaire and multimedia artist will descend on The Warren: Theatre Box this year with an absolute Blooming Surprise. This show is full of heart as it takes audiences through her hopes and dreams and, above all, what it means to believe in yourself.
Based up in sunny Scotland, SáRas has travelled down south to delight her audiences with a truly honest, yet charmingly well-conceived piece that is suitable for all ages and will no doubt crack a smile on even the toughest of critics.
Curses, The Warren: Theatre Box, 13-15 May 14:00
As with most of this year’s Dance and Physical theatre category, Fabrizio Amanajas and Will Osmond have promised to capture their audiences with a show that is both through-provoking and funny in equal measure. Tackling the issue of Curses and how we deal with the burdens of everyday life, it may sound bit on the gloomy side. However, the pair have vowed to excite us with this brand new collaboration, making this physical-visual-textual mashup worth taking a chance on.
The Sissy’s Progress, Marlborough, 7 May 13:00
Now this is a show to watch out for. Nando Messias’ response to a hateful homophobic attack is both defiant and celebratory, as he prepares his parade of solidarity in The Sissy’s Progress.
Spilling out of the Marlborough Theatre and onto the streets, this spectacular performance, coupled with original music by Jordan Hunt, is nothing less than fabulous. Although it is eye-catching, audiences will do well to remember that this not just the fluffy theatre you might first expect, but a subtle critique of gender, visibility and violence.
Into the Water, Brighton Spiegeltent: Bosco, 30-31 May, 1-5 June 15:30
Folk dance pair Up & Over It are here to shine with their immersive dance performance that will entertain the whole family. Taking Irish dance to its limits, ex-Riverdance performers Suzanne Cleary and Peter Harding provide a mash-up of electro-pop, nouveau folk, alternative percussion, experimental video, contemporary dance and cabaret. And that’s all in one show!
