This year marks the dawn of Republic. Arriving at Brighton Fringe with a 500 seater Spiegeltent and ambitions to provide the ultimate Brighton beach party, this is literally not something to be missed. And here’s a small snippet from their 2016 line-up that caught our eye.
Expect mutton chops, magic and mayhem
Black Cat Cabaret, 28-30 May 18:00
London’s purveyors of cabaret noir come straight from the Hotel Café Royal with their titillating burlesque show, Black Cat Cabaret. Winner of the Best Production at the London Cabaret Awards 2014, this show is the purr…fect addition to Republic’s Fringe programme.
Comedians' Cinema Club, 14-15 May 17:30
Created by Eric Lampaert, the Comedians’ recreate a host of famous movies, just don’t expect them to follow the script! In this absolute gem of a show, Lampaert is joined by fellow funny men Will Seaward and Matthew Highton for a boozy blockbuster and an all-round hilarious night.
John Robertson's The Dark Room,13 May 19:00
Thank you Republic for bringing this cult hit show to Brighton. With a live action, text based adventure game and audiences choosing their own fate, a plethora of five star reviews can’t be wrong. Which option will you take?
Comedy in the Dark, 10, 17, 24, 31 May 19:00
Exactly what it says on the tin. Comedy in total pitch black – or it will be if there’s no light sneaking into the Spiegeltent at 7pm (and no-one is using their mobiles). An interesting idea, but ultimately will need strong set of comics to impress. Will it be the most fun you can have with the lights switched off?
Behold the time travelling Victorian magic duo Morgan & West and expect mutton chops, magic and mayhem. Like much of Republic’s line-up, Morgan & West perform for only a few dates but this is a highly polished show getting the balance right for kids and adults alike.
