Annie McGrath: Ambivert is a stand-up comedy show set in 2017 and performed by a 27 year old woman called Annie McGrath. We sent Annie a Q&A. This is how she responded…

My landlord and friend Charlie Perkins is one hell of an inspiring lass. She is incredibly enthusiastic about the comedy industry, and always very positive and encouraging of me.

Hi Annie, tell me about your show

Some things I talk about: oranges, Costa Rica, freezing eggs, and how hard it is for my generation. Does that make you want to see it? Thought not.

What does Edinburgh mean to you?

Wet feet, warm rooms, no voice, fit people, hog roasts, damp flyers.

Who inspires you and why?

My landlord and friend Charlie Perkins is one hell of an inspiring lass. She is incredibly enthusiastic about the comedy industry, and always very positive and encouraging of me.

Describe your best or worst experiences on stage.

I think my best and my worst experiences on stage are often the same. There can be something quite exhilarating and cathartic about when things go wrong. In my first school play at secondary school, one of my best friends fell down the stairs and I remember just shouting “shit, it’s Roz!”, making absolutely no attempt to keep the fourth wall in tact.

Describe your best or worst review.

In 2013, Jack Barry and I were performing our sketch show (Twins) on the free fringe in a venue where the bar staff would talk throughout the show and the TVs were on at the back of the pub, playing the rugby. I remember one day, an old man in the audience fell asleep throughout the entire show. Then as I was holding the bucket on the way out, he patted me on the shoulder and said “keep practising”.

If you weren’t a performer, what would you be?

Happy

What was the last book you read?

The Power by Naomi Alderman

Who would play you in a film of your life?

Me, obviously. If I’m in charge of casting, then I’m not gonna give the part to anyone else, am I? Also, I look and sound very similar to her.

Imagine that the BBC have asked you to produce a primetime show. What would it be and who else would be involved?

Shag, Marry, Kill. Everyone would be involved.
