Broadway Baby is talking to Chris Haigh of the The Jäger Maestros, an oompah band that promises to have crowds laughing, drinking and bouncing.
Having been approached by TV producers to appear on various television shows and performed at huge corporate gigs in the recent months, we can’t believe how much of an impact that we have had in such a short space of time.
Tell us about your show
The Jägers have developed and honed to perfection a show that comprises classic oompah music with modern greats (such as our much-loved version of Bohemian Rhapsody) and a series of audience-participation tunes and games that have the crowds bouncing, laughing, drinking and, not forgetting, swaying.
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
The band have always wanted to take part in the Edinburgh Fringe as that is without doubt the hub of entertainment and comedy across the UK. Wen we looked at Space UK and discussed the venue, we knew that it would be ideal for the show that we are going to put on in terms of location, size and facilities. The people who run The Space have been phenomenal in helping us to understand just what we need to do to have a successful show and we know that this is going to be a wonderful partnership.
Have you brought a show to the festival before?
This is our first time, so we have needed all the help and advice that we could get! However, we have seen the shows that have performed and been successful with audiences here and have used that invaluable knowledge to mould our show into one that will hopefully resonate with every member of our audience and have them leaving with huge smiles and ringing ears. Without doubt, we need publicity. We are under no illusions that we are completely new to the fringe and know that we need people to hear about us and come and watch our show. Once we have done a few shows, hopefully we can generate our own publicity through word of mouth, but to begin with we are trying to get as much publicity as possible and will be out on the Royal Mile playing to generate attention and give the public a taster of the show.
If your show does well in Edinburgh, what do you want to do with it next?
We’d love to see how far we can go with it! Having been approached by TV producers to appear on various television shows and performed at huge corporate gigs in the recent months, we can’t believe how much of an impact that we have had in such a short space of time. No matter where we are, as long as we can keep entertaining and making people laugh and smile, we will keep performing.
