Broadway Baby talks to Joanne Griffiths, part of the team bringing Consumption to EdFringe '15.
We know this is a massive challenge, we are ready for it!
Tell us about your show
Apart from all the normal fabness it’s brand new! Written and directed by two old colleagues it focuses on our ever-growing consumption of EVERYTHING and asks the question what is normal in Britain 2015?
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
Because they were brilliant to deal with. Helped us out when it looked like we weren’t going to get a venue. Easy and prompt to deal with.
Why Edinburgh? What’s the attraction?
It’s the biggest festival of this kind in the world! We’ve been audience members for over twenty years, now we need to participate. We know this is a massive challenge, we are ready for it! If you’ve got a great show why not Edinburgh is the real question.
How did you create your show?
Jo Griffiths has written the script. She contacted her old friend and colleague Lorraine Cushnie and asked her if she’d like to direct it. Trust, friendship and alcohol between these two women spans twenty years. Wanting to work with recent graduates we are now workshopping the script, adding and taking out bits along the way, working as an ensemble we hope it’s going to be great.
What’s the main thing you want to get out of the festival this year?
We want to show funding bodies that we want to be taken seriously. It is so hard in the arts, making theatre and surviving is tough, we feel now is the time to take things forward as a company and our journey starts at Edinburgh.
If your show does well in Edinburgh, what do you want to do with it next?
We would like to scream from the rooftops so that all funding bodies see our work and see our integrity and passion for creating original theatre that addresses big themes. With funding, we can move forward.
